Solvent-Soluble Near-Infrared (NIR) Dyes for Coatings and Inks
QCR Solutions helps developers narrow solvent soluble NIR dye choices based on the finished material system−not wavelength alone.
Use this page to screen solvent soluble NIR absorbing dyes for technical coatings, inks optical layers, adhesives, cast systems, and related specialty formulations. Temporary solvent solubility does not prove compatibility after drying, curing, polymerization.
How QCR Solutions Selects a Starting Dye
A useful starting dye depends on the finished construction, optical target, and process−not simply the
wavelength match in a solvent spectrum.

Where These Dyes May Be Evaluated
Optical Coatings + Filters: Confirm binder, dry film thickness, target band and optical clarity.
Security + Machine Readable Inks or Coatings: Confirm print method, solvent, film deposit, and reader wavelength.
Clear + Transparent Card Systems: Confirm varnish compatibility, lamination heat history, OD at required bands, and visible neutrality.
What To Watch During Screening
A useful solvent-screenoing result is only a first step. Track these risks in the finished system during evaluation.
Solubilty/Precipitation: A dye may dissolve during screening and still fall out during drydown or storage.
Cure/Polymerization Interaction: Reactive chemistry can shift, weaken, or deactivate the optical repsonse.
Thermal Degredation: Drying, cure, lamination, or molding heat history can reduce dye performance.
Special Shift: The absorption maximum can move between a test solvent and the finished article.
Visible Color/Transmission: Higher loading may darken the article or reduce visible transmission.
Aggregation/Saturation: Heavy loading can flatten response, create haze, or limit useful preformance gains.
When One NIR Dye Is Not Enough
Some Optical targets need more than one absorption band or a coordinated visible appearance. In those cases, a documented dye set may be more practical than a singel-dye approach.
CF018NG | NIR Dye Set
Established solvent dissolvable set for clear and transparent car IR-blocking layers. Absorption peaks near 860 and 950 nm. Visible appearance: neutral-gray transparent layer.
Intended for solvent based screen varnish systems used in ISO/IEC 7810 ATM/IR detection windows.
This is an application specific set, not a universl replacement for individual dyes.
